Speed is important for a database system so users can get data out of the system quickly. Lenovo recently announced the number one TPC-H 10TB benchmark world record using Windows Server 2016 and SQL Server 2016 on a Lenovo System x3850 X6 (4 x Intel Xeon E7-8890 v4 processors at 2.20 GHz, 6 TB of RAM, and 8 x SanDisk ioMemory SX350 6.4TB PCIe flash adapters). This server-level system uses the latest Intel Xeon E7 processor technology. These results help show that SQL Server 2016 is the is one of the fastest database environments available today. It is reported that performance improvements available using SQL Server 2016 mean queries could run up to 34x faster, on in-memory columnstore queries.
